Canadian drama set in the 1940s in which 16-year-old Jeannie Dougall (Carol Kane) struggles to keep up with her flamboyant friend Dolly (Bonnie Carol Case) as Dolly boasts of her sexuality and tries to bring Jeannie out of her shell. Jeannie's brother Jimmie (Paul Bradley) and his friend Billy (Doug McGrath) return home from military duties for a short while, and during this time Billy rapes Jeannie. Jeannie's parents, Mary (Doris Petrie) and Jim (Donald Pleasence) are extremely proud and conservative and are scandalised when Jeannie falls pregnant. Confiding in her parents, her father denies that this is the fault of the perpetrator, Billy, and now sees Jeannie as defiled and unwholesome. To keep up appearances and the family's reputation, Jim decides that Jeannie must now marry, as her pregnancy progresses.
